U.S. President Donald Trump does not have the authority to deploy troops to Chicago, Democratic House of Representatives Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries said on Sunday as the Pentagon carried out initial planning for a possible deployment.

Sources tell NBC news the search on former national security adviser-turned prominent Trump critic John Bolton’s home was focused on classified records. But it is difficult to separate these claims from the words of a president who campaigned on promises of revenge against his political enemies.

The search focused on whether Bolton illegally possessed or shared classified information, people familiar with the investigation say.

The FBI searched the home and office of former Trump ally and national security adviser John Bolton on Friday as part of an investigation into the handling of classified information. Bolton became an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump since his 2019 firing and is the author of a scathing book about his White House experience.
