Renewable-energy stocks fell, after President Trump issued an executive order calling for tight application of the eligibility rules for clean-energy tax credits. Shares in solar-equipment maker First Solar fell about 2.

The President directed the Treasury and Interior department to enforce the termination of wind and solar tax credits.

The president noted that U.S. negotiators remained open to offers from trading partners, suggesting that tariffs could be reduced by — or even after — the deadline on Aug. 1.
