At least 39 people have become sick and one person has died in connection with an E. coli outbreak linked to organic carrots, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Sunday. According to the CDC,

One person has died and at least 39 others have been made ill by E. coli infections linked to organic carrots sold by several large grocery retailers in 18 states, U.S. health officials say. The carrots were also shipped to stores in Canada and Puerto Rico.

Grimmway Farms, based in Bakersfiled, California, has recalled the carrots, which included whole and baby organic carrots sold in bags under multiple brand names including 365, Cal-Organic, Nature's Promise, O-Organics, Trader Joe's and Wegmans, among others.
