President Donald Trump cast his dismissal of Michael Waltz as a step up when he reassigned the Republican at the center of the "Signalgate" to a plumb ambassador position.

Mike Waltz, U.S. President Donald Trump's pick to be his U.N. envoy, said on Tuesday, adding that he is "confident we can make the U.N. great again."

Waltz has spent the last few months on the White House payroll despite being removed as national security adviser.
