Alphabet Inc.’s Google lost its appeal of a judge’s order requiring an overhaul of the technology giant’s app store policies in an antitrust case filed by Fortnite-maker Epic Games Inc.The ruling by the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday means the Google Play store will need to lift restrictions that prevent app developers from setting up rival marketplaces and billing systems.

Alphabet’s Google on Thursday failed to persuade a U.S. appeals panel to overturn a jury verdict and federal court order requiring the technology company to revamp its app store Play.

In 2023, the jury verdict in the Epic Games vs Google case ruled that Google had an “illegal monopoly” with its practices over Android with the Play Store and its billing practices. Through that case, many of Google’s deals were deemed as anticompetitive, leading to the verdict.
