As tourists question whether to cancel their trips to Hawaii, the Hawaii Department of Transportation has yet to receive a response from the Federal Aviation Administration regarding its request to be exempt from the mandate to drop up to 10% of flights at major airports.

Delta Air Lines will comply with an FAA order to cut flights at 40 major U.S. airports starting Friday, likely including Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson, while offering flexible options for travelers affected by the reductions.
In a letter sent Thursday to U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, state DOT Director Ed Sniffen requested a waiver from the FAA’s planned reductions, which include Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu among 40 high-traffic airports facing cuts.
The government shutdown has led to numerous flight cancellations and delays coming into and out of Southern California airports over the weekend.
