"Pepito" has weakened into a typhoon even as it crosses Nueva Vizcaya on Sunday night, according to the state weather bureau.

Nearly a million people were displaced, flights were canceled and classes remain suspended in many areas today as Super Typhoon Pepito barreled across Luzon, making two landfalls and causing extensive damage in its wake.

Local government units in Metro Manila have started mobilizing its search and rescue equipment and other resources in preparation for the potential impact of Super Typhoon Pepito.

MANILA – Pepito (international name Man-yi) has intensified into a super typhoon on Saturday. All areas where wind signals are hoisted were urged to prepare as the cyclone packs maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph.

After hitting Aurora, Super Typhoon Pepito (Man-yi) starts moving over Quirino on Sunday afternoon, November 17. Wind and rainfall warnings remain in effect.
