The New York Giants have placed wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton on injured reserve. He suffered a torn Achilles tendon during practice on Sunday.

The Giants signed linebacker Chris Board during the offseason to fill a similar special teams role. And undrafted rookie receiver Dalen Cambre — a long shot to make the roster when camp opened — is in the NFL right now because of his special-teams excellence in college.

It was initially believed that Ford-Wheaton suffered a torn Achilles, and Giant’s Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed Monday that it is indeed an Achilles. “My heart aches for that man,” Daboll said.
